Mesquite is known for its rodeo, but daily life is shaped just as much by its highways and its range of housing. Here is what to know.

The Rodeo Capital of Texas

The Texas Legislature named Mesquite the “Rodeo Capital of Texas” in 1993. The Mesquite Championship Rodeo, sanctioned by the PRCA, runs on summer Saturday nights at Mesquite Arena.

History and the arts

Opal Lawrence Historical Park centers on a farmhouse built in 1874, and the Mesquite Arts Center hosts concerts, theater, and exhibitions.

Commuting

I-30, I-635, and I-20 put downtown Dallas and much of the region within reach. Mesquite is not a DART member city, so most residents drive.

Homes and schools

Housing ranges from established neighborhoods to newer homes in the south and east. Mesquite ISD serves most of the city, with small parts in Dallas ISD and Forney ISD.
